Controversy Over Madonna's Confessions Tour

Madonna is at it again... Her latest tour is selling for no less than $350 a ticket, and involves everything from raciness, to an oversized disco ball, to a mock crucifixion. Oh Madonna, when will the controversy ever end? Some may say Madonna was born to cause trouble. The visuals of her Confessions Tour are nothing short of spectacular, as only Madonna would have it. The Orange County Register referred to the Confessions Tour as a cross between “Cirque du Soleil, performance-art commentary and dance-party explosion...” Her costumes included the likes of skin-tight leotards and something similar to an equestrian dominatrix. The stage visuals followed suit, as witnessed by her entrance where she is lowered onto the catwalk inside a mirror ball that opens like flower petals. Clearly many of Madonna’s songs had deeper meanings and addressed social and political issues like burka-shrouded women breaking out of servitude, a visual attack on world leaders, and spiritual harmony. Madonna has moved on from her “Material Girl” days and has been working for some time to produce a show with this magnitude in which she can showcase her political and social opinions. Some fans may be disappointed, especially because only two of her performed songs are from her old albums. And yet, there has never been quite a concert put on by Madonna in the past, and perhaps there will never be one quite like it again.
