LEARN TO LOVE YOUR FLAWS

Love Everything About Yourself...Including Your Flaws!

Can you imagine a world where you did not grow up looking at thousands and thousands of images of other women who were deemed prettier than you?

Can you imagine loving your body and your appearance without constantly comparing your features to others and wishing you were thinner/tanner/had longer hair/bigger eyes/whatever?

Women in America are raised surrounded by images of beauty. They do not make us feel more beautiful; instead they leave us wondering what we can do to make our thighs slimmer, our hair shinier and our teeth straighter. Any perceived flaws are unacceptable, whether such “flaws” include jiggles, lumps, bumps, blemishes or completely imagined imperfections.

The message we are sent from a very young age is that we should never be happy with our natural assets; even if your hair looks good, it can always look better if you buy Super Shampoo 8000. Even if you like the shape of your lips, don’t you want to plump them up with Lip Bump Extra Puffy Gloss? The unhappier you are with your natural beauty, the more products you are going to buy. Companies know this and it is in their best interests that you stay depressed about your looks, wishing your hair was two shades lighter and shelling out money on their beauty products.

This beauty ideal is unattainable. We seek for flawless perfection because that is what we see reflected on magazine covers and billboards. However, that beauty is fake. It is airbrushed and graphically designed twenty times over to create not the photo of a woman, but the photo of an idealized female manifested on a computer screen.

Real women do not look like that, and when they try to, the results can be disastrous. For example, consider Heidi Montag; no doubt people would agree that she was a very beautiful woman. However she saw awful flaws in herself and went under the knife to change her natural beauty to what she thought other people would think was more beautiful. Now the poor girl looks like she is made of plastic.

There is something within you that is unique in this entire world, and you should never try and extinguish this natural self and “fix” what someone else told you are flaws. Quit striving for perfection. It doesn’t exist, everyone knows it and those who seem to be perfect (like Heidi) are in reality quite fake and the stench of artifice reeks from miles away.

Learn to love your “flaws” because these characteristics make you who you are, they set you apart as a unique human being in an ocean of people trying to look like someone else. Choose to be real rather than fake; authenticity is far more attractive any day of the week. When you embrace your so-called flaws, you will quickly come to realize that your flaws are indeed a big part of what makes you special. Who cares if your nose has a bump or your ears are a little big or your teeth are a little crooked? Why would you want to look like someone else?

Love yourself first, and realize that looking like everyone else is not something to aspire to. Everyone has flaws, and if you can be confident in spite of them, then your inner beauty will shine through.
